Values based classroom management

This study was done with the aim of determining the reflecting styles of the values adopted by the teachers in classroom management, and finding out the impacts of them on the students. In the frame of this main aim, 68 primary school teachers who worked in the boarding schools in the city center and towns of Elazig in the 2008-2009 instructional year, were taken as the study group in this research. In the study, the views of the teachers were taken by semi-structured interviews, and the obtained data were analyzed by qualitative analysis techniques. The findings revealed that the most preferred values by teachers in classroom management were responsibility and honesty; and the least preferred ones were pleasure and comfortable life. Teachers? reflecting styles of these preferred values in the classroom management were in the form of explaining, modeling, self regularization, feedback, and classroom climate. The impacts of these reflected values in the classroom management were mostly on students? behaviors, interpersonal relationships, and classroom climate.Key Words: Regional Public Boarding Schools, Teachers, Classroom Management, Values, Students, Academic Improvement, Qualitative Research.
