Abstract (EN)
Their research has been conducted to examine values education in changed (2017) social sciences curriculum in detail. Qualitative research methods have been used in the research. Sample of the research is consisted of 31 social sciences teachers working in Sivas in 2018-2019 education term. As a data collection tool, semi-structured interview form having 10 open ended question was used in the research. Obtained data was examined by content analysis. About research, in changed 5. class curriculum, more space given for values education is responded positively by participating teachers. Even though values are included in curriculum, it's revealed that values education should start in family. It's understood that in values education teachers are as effective as family, and the child takes the teacher as role model. Participating social sciences teachers indicate that when values are taught to children, it's required that children should learn the values by living, teachers should be role models to children, values should be associated with life, student must be in the center during values education and teacher and parent cooperation should be established. Participating social sciences teachers emphasized that while responsibility, empathy and honesty are hard to teach, helping and patriotism is easy to teach. The teachers participating in the research indicated having problems in teaching values, such as student is indifferent to lessons, student have negative role models, technological device usage, parents being indifferent, limitations in applying, having not enough lesson hours. Participating teachers indicated that there should be more activities for values education. Participating social sciences teachers indicated that while teaching values; factors such as school, family, neighborhood, curriculum are very effective, and they should be considered as a whole. Participating teachers indicated that while teaching values responsibility, patriotism, honesty, compassion, respect values should be taught first. Participating social sciences teachers emphasized that, since social sciences lessons are inside of life, it has an important role in values education, therefore its lesson hours should be increased and most of the social sciences learning outcomes are related to our values. In order for students to gain values correctly, actives must be increased, values education should start in pre-school times, values education must not be within the lessons but must be as separate lessons, values education must not stay in theory but must be applied, and families' awareness should be raised.
