THE EFFECT OF THE DIFFERENT CURE CONDITIONS ON THESTRENGTH OF POLYESTER-CALCID COMPOSITE REINFORCEDWITH VARIOUS END SHAPED FIBERS(M.Sc. Thesis)Zafer ÖZDEM RGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTThe mechanical properties of the polyester calsid composite reinforced withvarious fibers are determined by the fiber material that is used. The shapeand the fiber volume fraction has also a considerable effect. The studyconsists of the comparison of the matrix strength for composites reinforcedwith straight fibers and various end shaped fibers. Samples simultaneouslyhave been subjected to mechanical tests; tensile, four point bending and DCB( Double Cantilever Beam ) tests. The DCB samples with straight fibers havebeen studied for cure conditions ; 40ºC, 80ºC and 120ºC, for 4, 8 and 12° ° °hours. Tensile test and four-point-bending is applied to samples withoutfibers, straight type fiber, Z type, U type, 00 type and braiding samples.As aresult ; it has been observed that braiding type fibers have enhancement inmechanical properties than the straight fibers in bending strength. I typefibers are beter than the others in tensile tests.
