Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, maritime trade in the Mediterranean during the Iron Age, the development of trade and the cities that interacted were discussed specifically. Twenty-two coastal cities located in the Aiolis, Ionia and Caria Regions in Western Anatolia, their maritime structures, trade and regional politics affecting commerce were made with the origin analysis of the finds found in the entire Mediterranean basin. Research and investigations have shown that the western coasts of Anatolia have a specific importance in the Mediterranean maritime trade. The foundations of the world economic system were laid in this period, with some of the coastal cities selling the products they obtained through intensive production activities to the sailors who visited the city, and the regular shopping of the merchant seafaring cities. In particular, Phocaea carried the exotic products it obtained through its colonial activities in the Western Mediterranean to the western coasts of Anatolia. He also carried the olive oil and wine here to the western shores of the Mediterranean, where he exchanged them. Exchanges with the Phoenicians at the intersection points in the Western Mediterranean enabled it to move to the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition, the Western Anatolian cities of Khios, Teos, Phokaia, Klazomenai, Knidos, Halicarnassus and Lesbos created a base concept in trade with the port of Naukratis in Egypt. They produced in this region and local artists of Egyptian origin worked in the production. Thus, artifacts of Egyptian origin, found extensively on the Aegean coast, were produced and sold to seafaring peoples and all cities. The commercial activities carried out during the Iron Age and the interactions of societies with each other increased the speed of information sharing and created developments in agriculture and production. The phenomenon of worship tourism was introduced and cities began to develop worship visits. Interaction in art revealed the perfect understanding of art, and especially the rise of sculpture and ceramic art was realized thanks to these interactions in the Iron Age. The rising culture was prepared in the Iron Age, laying the foundations of the world economic system and laying the groundwork for the Hellenistic Period.
