II ABSTRACT MSCTIIESİS THE EFFECT OF COPPER CON TEN T ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF IRON BASED MOL1BDENIUM, NICKEL AND COPPER ADDITIVE POWDER METAL ALLOY İlyas SOMUNKIRAN Fırat University Graduate School of Natural Department of Metalurgy Education In this study, the effects of copper content of Distaloy AE powder alloy on the mechanical properties were investigeted. Copper content of Distaloy AE was increased from 15% to 6.5% Mechanical properties such as ultimate, tensile strength, compression strength and hardness properties were determined for each alloy composition. All specimens were cold compacted in a double action press under a constant press force and sintered at I I30°C for 30 minutes in a propan gas atmosphore. As a based powder, Distaloy AE powder was choosen as the base material and copper powder was added 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 5% in weight. To be able to determine mechanical properties, tensile, compression and hardness tests were performed. Density of each alloy groups was determined and the effect of increasing copper content on the density of (Distaloy AE + Cu) alloys was investigated It is concluded that with the increasing copper content, ultimate tensile strength, compression strength and hardness values increase. However, density of alloys increases up to 2.5% copper content and then decrease with higher copper content Key Words : Powder Metallurgy, Iron Alloy, Distaloy AH, Mechanical Properties
