Rural tourism potential of Demirköy (Kırklareli) district and local people's perspective on tourism

Although tourism was perceived as coastal tourism only in the summer months in the previous periods, various alternative types of tourism have emerged over time. One of these alternative types of tourism is rural tourism. While rural tourism offers different activity opportunities for visitors, it also provides socio-economic development opportunities for those living in rural areas. In this study; Demirköy district of Kırklareli province, which has natural, cultural and historical tourism potential but has not yet been fully discovered, is discussed. The selection of the district as a research area was effective because it has natural and cultural attractions and national parks and protected areas. In the study, it is aimed to determine the tourism potential of the district, to determine the problems that may be encountered in rural tourism and to determine the view of the local people to rural tourism. In the first stage, various reports and publications of the region were examined, and then field studies were carried out. Interview studies with local people also tried to reach first-hand data. In the interviews, it was determined that the people supported rural tourism and wanted to take part in tourism due to the limited economic resources available. Participants think that tourism will increase social opportunities and economic level in the region. In the first place for the development of tourism; Problems such as infrastructure deficiencies such as market place, water, roads, etc. and accommodation capacity should be solved. In addition, trainings should be given to the local people in order to bring local products and handicrafts to tourism and the region should be promoted.
