Erzincan in the period of the Demokrat Parti (1950-1960)

A new political, economic and social period started in Turkey after "the Demokrat Parti" had won the elections and as a result of endind the single party rule of continuous 27 years in 1950.This situation was seen in all areas of life in Turkey and Erzincan as well. The purpose of this study is casting light on the recent history of Erzincan by examining the developments during the era of Demokrat Parti. In this sense, under the consideration of developments in the Demokrat Parti period (between 1950 and 1960) ,the general and local elections held between 1950 and 1960, the elected members of parliament, the mayors and the governors of Erzincan, the investments made by Demokrat Parti, the expectations of the public, party organizations, visits by the statements, the debates between the parties, and the problems in Erzincan are held. In the introduction part of this study, a brief information is given on the history of Erzincan, the geography of it, and the political history from the republician period to 1950. In the first part, the information about the establishment of parties in the Republic of Turkey and the trials of multi-party political life, the establishment of the Demokrat Parti, the transition to multi-party life and the 1946 general election, the first general election of multi-party life is given. Additionally, the organization of Demokrat Parti in Erzincan and the debates on conflicts between political parties are also included. In the second and the third part, the developments in Erzincan between the years 1950-1960 are explained.The contribution of Demokrat Parti to Erzican in this decade, the unsolved problems during this period, the effectiveness of the opposition parties, the publishing policy of local press, the relations between local press and the government are evaluated by means of the news from the local press in the conclusion part.
