Democratic Party Period i̇ndustrial policies in Turkey

This study gives detailed information about how Menderes governments, established between the years 1950-1960, gave shape to Turkish Industry by considering industrial policies followed during the rule of Democratic Party, which came to power after the transition to multi-party life in the Republic of Turkey. In this context, basic principles that Democratic Party Rule adopted in industrialisation policies provide information about national and global developments which affect industrialisation policies. Turkish industrialization entered a period of stagnation as a result of interventionist policies followed in the Second World War years and increase in the budget allocated to defence costs. As industrial policies required, by sustaining liberalism and statism together, Democratic Party rule aimed to build the national bourgeoisie, which had been seen as a state policy for many years by strengthening domestic capital, at the same time, it pursued industrial policies aimed at filling the gap in the industrialization by making the necessary investments in areas where the private sector failed. Between the years 1950-1960, as much as internal factors, external developments had been the decisive factor in the determination of the industrialization policies. This study tries to answer the question to what extent development reports prepared during the Democratic Party rule as a result of relations with organisations like IMF, IBRD, OEEC, joined during CHP period, affected the industrial policy followed.
