Abstract (EN)
This study aims to develop an optimization model for obtaining the maximum benefit from wind energy and to help reduce external dependence. In this sense, design of experiment and optimization method were comprehensively combined together in wind energy field for the first time. Existing data of installed wind power plants operating in Turkey were analyzed in this work. Initially, both the individual and interactive effects of controllable and uncontrollable factors on wind power generation were investigated with the help of Box-Behnken design. Secondly, an optimization technique was utilized to estimate optimum values for each decision variable in order to maximize the amount of energy to be produced for the future. The results showed that the overall model and all the input factors were significant for wind energy production. Based on the established nonlinear optimization model, the optimum results with high desirability value (0.9587) for turbine power, hub height, rotor diameter and wind speed were calculated as 3.0670 MW, 108.8424 m, 106.7597 m, 6.1684 m/sec, respectively, for the maximized energy output which was 9952000 kWh per unit turbine, annually. This study represents a guideline for governments and entrepreneurs with respect to the design of new power plants to produce maximum amount of energy from wind.
