Effect of intraabdominal boric acid in experimental adhesion model

Abstract (EN)

Objective: As a result of the development of medical and surgical techniques over time, more frequent abdominal operations have caused intra-abdominal adhesions to be seen more frequently. Postoperative intra-abdominal adhesions occur in more than 90% of all laparotomies. In our study, we aimed to investigate the effect of 5% boric acid solution application on intra-abdominal adhesion development in rats with an adhesion model. Materials and Methods: Our study was carried out in 2 groups (adhesion model and 5% boric acid solution were applied), each containing 16 rats. On the 14th postoperative day, rats were sacrificed and re-explored, and the adhesions that developed were evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. The data obtained as a result of macroscopic and microscopic scoring were evaluated with the Mann-Whitney U test in IBM SPSS Statistics 24 program. Statistical significance level was determined as "p <0.05". Results: As a result of our study, a statistically significant difference was found between the boric acid applied group and the control group. When the statistical data were examined, it was observed that there was a macroscopically and microscopically significant decrease in adhesion development in the boric acid group (p <0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: As a result of this study; In the experimental adhesion model, it has been shown that intraabdominal application of 5% boric acid solution has a significant effect in reducing postoperative intraabdominal adhesions.
