Özet (EN)

Selda Sarıkaya, Histopathological Effects of Fibrin Glue and Cyanoacrylates in Maxillary Sinus in an Experimental Animal Model, Bulent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine, Thesis in ENT, Zonguldak 2013 Aim: The aim of this study is the show and compare the histopathological effects of fibrin glue and cyanoacrylates in maxillary sinus mucosa on rabbits. Material and Methods: 20 New Zealand rabbits that were between 2.5-3 kg in weight and 14-16 weeks in age were divided in 2 groups (ten of each) to study histopathological effects of fibrin glue and cyanoacrylates in maxillary sinus. While in group one the right maxillary sinüs of rabbits were treated with fibrin glue, in group two the right maxillary sinüs of rabbits were treated with cyanoacrylates. As control group, the left maxillary sinus of these rabbits were treated with SF. One of the rabbits who was treated with cyanoacrylates died during the study and removed from the analysis. On postoperative day 21, the animals were euthanatized. The maxillary sinus mucosa samples were analyzed pathologically for inflammation degree, fibrosis, foreign body reaction, the loss of siliyer, increase of osteogenesis in bone structure under the mucosa and the loss of seroz glands. Results: Statistically significant differences in maxillary sinus mucosa between the fibrin glue and control group for inflammation degree, fibrosis, foreign body reaction, the loss of siliyer, osteogenisis and the loss of seroz glands are observed. These parameters are increased for the fibrin glue (P:0.001,<0.001, 0.003, <0.001, 0.03, <0.001 respectively). In the cyanoacrylates group, all these parameters are also increased when compared to the control group. However, increases are not statistically significant. When fibrin glue and cyanoacrylates groups are compared there are significant differences in all parameters except osteogenesis (P:0.005, 0.003, 0.003, 0.002, 0.003 respectively) Conclusions: Histopathological results show that, in rabbit?s maxillary sinus mucosa, cyanoacrylates has less side effects than fibrin glue. There needs to be additional clinical studies to demonstrate the validity of these results in humans. Keywords: experimental, maxillary sinus, fibrin glue, cyanoacrylates, histopathological, rabbit
