Effect of carvacrol on induced experimental lier cirrhosis in rats

In this study we aimed at finding whether anti-fibrotic effect of carvacrol have on dimethylnitrosamine(DMN)-induced liver fibrosis in rats. In study, Wistar type 70 male rats were used. Divided equally into seven groups: GroupI was control group (physiologic serum), GroupII was (carvacrol,40mg/kg), GroupIII was model group (DMN,10mg/kg/%1), GroupIV was (first carvacrol,40mg/kg then DMN,10mg/kg/%1), GroupV was (first DMN,10mg/kg/%1 then carvacrol,40mg/kg), GroupVI was (first DMN,10mg/kg/%1 then carvacrol,10mg/kg), Group VII was (simultaneously carvacrol,40mg/kg and DMN,10mg/kg/%1). At the end of experiments blood samples were removed. Livers were extracted. Differences between mean values were determined by one-way analysis (one-way ANOVA), for significance between groups Tukey test were used and P<0.01 was considered to be significant. The increases in ALT, AST, GGT, T. BIL, d. BIL caused by DMN have been inhibited by carvacrol. Carvacrol hindered increases plasmatic bilirubin rise in rats undergone to DMN application. Carvacrol before cirrhosis appeared to be ineffective in normalisation of serum parameter abnormalities caused by DMN. Cavracrol significantly prevented body weight from decreasing observed under action of DMN. There was not found any difference from point of fibrosis between groupI, groupII and groupV at Modify Knodell score method over 6. Simultaneous group was not distinguishable from that of ?model?. It was showed that carvacrol is able to cause regulatory effects on blood biochemical parameters (ALT, AST, GGT, T. BIL, d. BIL, ALB), and moreover to impede progress in early periods of fibrosis. Therapeutic and protect effect of carvacrol at early stage of cirrhosis has been concluded to be taken place.
