The effect of bongardia chrysogonum on pain, behavior and blood parameters in rats with experimentally induced diabetic neuropathy

Abstract (EN)

Diabetic neuropathy is a microvasculer complication of diabetes mellitus. The most important factor that reduces life quality in chronic neuropathy is pain; and diabetic neuropathy decreases locomotor activity. It is suggested that a good glycemic control can prevent the condition or slow the progress. Hypoglycemic effect of Bongardia chrysogonum which inhabits in Gaziantep region was reported. In this study, the effect of Bongardia chrysogonum on diabetic neuropathy was investigated. 40 Wistar albino male rats were diveded 4 groups; Control, Bongardia, Diabetes, and Diabetes+Bongardia. While tap water was given to Diabetes and Control groups, Bongardia chrysogonum solution was given to Bongardia and Diabetes+Bongardia groups through orogastric tube. During the experiment, pain and behavior tests were repeated. Bloods were drawn from rats at the day that the experiment was started and at the day that the experiment was ended. Locomotor activity of Diabetes and Diabetes+Bongardia groups decreased and termal hyperaljesia occurred. There was not any significant difference between locomotor activity and tail flick latency of Bongardia group. Bongardia chrysogonum did not appear to affect glucose. This finding conflicts with the other study in the literature. Therefore, some new implications for the field are demonstrated throughout the study.
