Abstract (EN)
INTRODUCTION: In this study, it was aimed to reveal the effects of vivosorb, silastic and spongostan support materials on damaged middle ear mucosa healing. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Rats were randomly divided into four groups (n: 7). DPOAE and TOAE tests were applied to rats in all groups to evaluate hearing before surgery. In all groups, the middle ear mucosa of the rats was damaged. The control group was included in the experiment without supportive material on the damaged middle ear mucosa. Vivosorb, spongostan and silastic were placed on the damaged middle ear mucosa of rats in the other groups. After 28 days of follow-up, dpoae and toae tests were repeated to evaluate hearing. Immediately after the rats were sacrificed, tympanic bullae were removed. Sections prepared with histological techniques were evaluated by light microscopy. RESULTS: In the TOAE and DPOAE tests performed before and after the surgery, no significant difference was observed when the groups were compared. When each group was evaluated within itself, no significant difference was observed in the TOAE test after surgery, while a significant decrease was observed in the DPOAE test after surgery. In the Spongostan group, increased fibrobilastic activity, inflammation and neovascularization were observed in the middle ear mucosa. No significant difference was observed in the silastic, vivosorb and control groups with regard to fibrobilastic activity, inflammation and neovascularization. CONCLUSION: This study showed that vivosorb has no autotoxic effect, is biocompatible and can be used as an absorbable ideal support material to prevent adhesion in the middle ear.
