Özet (EN)

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of the different dosages of cefepime with the ceftazidime that was known effective in the experimental Pseudomonas aeruginosa endophthalmitis. The study was carried out with the 36 rabbits. Subjects were divided in to 6 groups each consisted of 6 rabbits. In group 1 (Sham group), treatment was not given following the endophthalmitis composed by the Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In group 2,3 and 4, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mg/0.1ml of cefepime were intravitreal injected respectively after the 24 hours endophthalmitis were occured. Besides that 1.0 mg/0.1 ml ceftazidime was used intravitreal as a treatment in group 5. In group 6 (Control/not enfected group) only 0.1 ml saline solution was enjected to the eyes. Subjects were assesed clinical after 1,3 and 6 days. At the end of the clinical assesment 0,1 ml samples of vitreus were aspirated and placed in cultures. Later eyes of the subjects were enucluated and examined by histopathologicaly. While the clinical difference between the group 1 and group 2 was not significant, the clinical differences between the group 1 and other groups were significant in the third day of the treatment. There were not significant clinical differences between the treatment groups. Neverthless, while there were significant differences between the group 1 and treatment groups, the differences between the treatment groups were not significant in the sixth day of the treatment. When the colony densities of bacterium in cultures were considered there were no significant differences between the treatment groups while there were significant differences between the group 1 and the treatment groups. When the specimens were examined histopathological there was no significant difference between the group 1 and group 2 but the differences between the group 1 and other treatment groups were significant. The results of this study showed that only the dosages of 1 and 2 mg/0.1ml of cefepime injected intravitreal were effective as a treatment modalitiy in endophthalmitis composed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.Key words: Cefepime, Ceftazidime, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Endophthalmitis
