A research example on mobbing in the maritime sector

The purpose of this research is to understand the perceptions of mobbing (psychological harassment) with regard to the personnel of the shipyards and ships in the maritime sector and to examine whether demographic variables such as gender, marital status, education level, age, term of employment or the location of the workplace show any significant differences. The research sample; İstanbul province between May-June 2015 in the Tuzla area constitutes 251 working personnel in shipyards and ships. The data collection tool used in the research was the LIPT Leymann (Leymann Ivertory Of Psychological Terrorization) scale. The obtained information in this study were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 21.0. The comparison of quantitative data shows that for the distinction between two groups the t-test was used, in case of more than two groups of parameters the Oneway Anova test was utilized and for the determination of the group that is causing the differences the Tukey 's post hoc test was used. According to the given answers by the participants, demographic variables like gender, years of service, position in the organization, marital status and the working sector have not a great influence with regard to esposure to mobbing but educational background and age show discrepancy. The educational background of the participants who are undergraduate are more exposure to "Self Demonstration and Restriction of Communication Facilities" and "Quality of Life" and "Attack Occupational Status" behavior than participants with other educational levels. Beside that it has been identified that undergraduate participants between 18-25 ages are more exposure to "Restriction of Self Demonstration and Communication Facilities ", " Social Reputation Attack "and "Health Direct Attack " behaviour than participants in other age groups.
