Abstract (EN)

While studying the history of the Ottoman State, archieve records are the primary resources to be referred. These documents, being first hand resources, are very important since they are the evidences of the related period which have reached today. Census tables among these documents have indispensable character in enlightening the city history and sociodemographic characteristics since they bear the time and locality components all together. These census documents, which are also important in states? history, transfer the qualitative and quantitative data of the counted population into the present day. The statistical information and evaluations about the demographic studies carried out in Ottoman times are seen in the studies of authorities such as Ord. Prof. Dr. Ömer Lütfi Barkan, Prof. Dr. Enver Ziya Karal and Prof. Dr. Kemal H. Karpat. Today, the prosopography studies performed by using the census notebooks is novel. We have carried out one of these studies. In our thesis, the records written in Ottoman Turkish of the 1830-1831 general census, including the population information of Denizli districts and the people residing in these districts, conducted by the Ottoman State for the first time in modern sense have been brought into the use of the world of knowledge by using the prosopography method. Keywords: First census, Denizli, prosopography.
