Investigation of the efficacy of cognitive behavioral group therapy in individuals with dental anxiety

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this researchis to investigate whether the group studied with cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBT) occurs with a change in dental anxiety levels. The research sample; between the ages of 18-35 applying to private dental clinics in Istanbul. Dental anxiety scale was applied as a questionnaire to 125 adult patients. According to the results of the survey, 30 people with the highest anxiety level were determined. Cognitive behavioral group therapy structured as 8 sessions was applied to 10 people via Zoom, an online platform. No application was made to the other 10 people. "Personal Information Form" , "Dental Anxiety Scale" , "Health Anxiety Inventory" , "Beck Anxiety Inventory" and "Beck Depression Inventory" were used as data collection tools in the study. Independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation and multiple regression were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research; Anxiety and depression levels of patients in both groups differ significantly in patients aged between 27-30, in female gender, in unemployed patients and in patients with higher education. In the study, it was also determined that the cognitive therapy applied to the patients in the study group improved the anxiety and depressive feelings of the patients.
