Evaluation of the effectiveness of gaseous ozone use in dentin deproteinization in terms of resin dentin bonding strength

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to compare resin-dentin interface in terms of microleakage and bonding strength after aging protocols (1 and 2 year(s)) of composite restoration applied with etch&rinse adhesive system in control group samples and with use of Sodium Hypochlorite (Endosolv-Hp, Imıcryl, Turkey) as dentin deproteinization agent, Bromelain enzyme (Bromelain Solgar, USA) and ozone gas (OzonyTronx®, Mymed, Germany). For the bond strength test, deproteinization agents were applied after abrasion of 112 permanent 3rd molar teeth, whose surface dentine was exposed on the occlusal surface, with acid. Composite blocks were prepared with the help of silicone molds, groups were formed in line with aging protocols (8 groups, n = 14). In order to evaluate the bond strength, the samples were placed in the Shimadzu AG-IS Autograph device and examined under a stereomicroscope to determine the fracture types. In the microleakage study, standard cervical cavities were opened under water cooling into the buccal and lingual / palatal of 56 permanent 3rd molar teeth and the surfaces were ground with acid. The composite restorations were completed by applying deproteinization agents to the prepared cavities except the samples belonging to the control group, and the samples were divided into groups according to the aging protocols (8 groups, n = 14). The samples kept in 2% methylene blue for 4 hours were sectioned with Metkon Microcut 201 device and microleakage scoring was performed. When the results obtained in the study were evaluated, it was found that Bromelain deproteinization exhibited higher microleakage scores (p <0.001) and lower bond strength values (p <0.001) compared to the other groups, making a statistically significant difference. When the aging times were compared between the distributions of microleakage, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference only in the ozone group (p> 0.050). When Control, Sodium Hypochlorite and Ozone groups are compared among themselves in terms of bonding strength; It was determined that there was no significant statistical difference (p=1,000). When the effects of the 1 and 2-year aging protocols within the group were compared, a significant statistical difference was found in all groups (p = 0.001).
