Abstract (EN)

In this study, three different types of isolated structural system, with framed bearing structural system and short and long geometric shear walls systems were studied and analyzed. These three different systems were used to observe the both positive and negative effects of the earthquake on different type of structures. Working under the basis of the characteristics of the friction pendulum isolators which are frequently used as isolators in Turkey, and according to the 2018 Turkish Building Earthquake Directorate; three different type of structural buildings has been evaluated. Since isolators have a composite property, a non-linear time history analysis has been applied in the analyzes by using the records belonging to seven different ground motion; the buildings were modeled and analyzed bidirectional by Etabs16.0.3 program. So in the scope of the thesis, considering important criteria such as maximum up lifting forces in vertical direction, compound horizontal displacements in the building, maximum shear forces, floor accelerations and story drift; differences between the three systems has been presented. As a result of the study, in aim of choosing the most suitable structural system, helpful information has been presented to the reader. In the isolated systems, during the configuration of the structural bearing system, by taking into consider design results and comparing how structural system affects the design; it has been shown how structural system configuration affect the design results. Thesis's main ideas and considered problem are presented in the first chapter. Types of isolated systems and isolation principles are presented in the second chapter. Introduction to the mechanical properties of earthquake isolation units are in the third chapter. According to the 2018 Turkish Building Earthquake Directorate, the used parameters in the study are presented in third chapter either. Introduction to mechanical properties of seismic isolation units; also the design of structural isolated building systems under earthquake effects have been presented in the fourth chapter. Isolators properties which belong to friction pendulum isolation and obtained design criteria are presented in the fifth chapter. Each system different results are introduced and explained in the sixth chapter.
