Depression level and post traumatic growth as predictors of resilience in earthquake victims

In the study, depression, posttraumatic growth and posttraumatic stress disorder as predictors of psychological resilience in adult earthquake survivors who experienced the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, the relationship between these variables and their differences according to sociodemographic characteristics were examined. The research was conducted with a total of 311 participants. Sociodemographic Information Form, Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults, Beck Depression Scale, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 were used as data collection tools. According to the findings, there was a negative relationship between the total score of the psychological resilience scale for adults and the Beck depression and posttraumatic stress disorder scale. However, there was a positive relationship between the total score of the psychological resilience scale for adults and the total score of the posttraumatic growth scale and the sub-dimensions of the posttraumatic growth scale. There was a negative relationship between the total score of posttraumatic growth and all sub-dimensions of the scale and depression. There was a positive relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder and depression and a positive relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder and posttraumatic growth scale total score and all sub-dimensions. In the study, it was concluded that posttraumatic growth and depression level had a predictive effect on psychological resilience. Differences of all scales according to demographic variables were examined. The findings were compared and discussed with the data in the literature.
