The effect of cognitive behavioral therapy based psychoeducation on suicide possibility and social functionality of depressive persons

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-based psychoeducation on suıcıde possibility and socıal functıonalıty of depressıve persons.Material and Method: The research was conducted in İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center between March 2021 and February 2022 as a experimental model with a pre-test post-test control group. The research was completed with 100 depressed patients (50 control, 50 experimental). Data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Suicide Probability Scale and Social Adaptation Self Assessment Scale. Eight sessions of CBT-based psychoeducation were given to depressed patients in the experimental group, and no intervention was applied to depressed patients in the control group. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, t-test wasused in the analysis of thedata. Results: The level of suıcıde possibility (88.72±18.50) of depressed patients in the experimental group after CBT-based psychoeducation decreased compared to the level of suıcıde possibility (94.98±18.92) of depressed patients in the control group. It was determined that the level of socıal functıonalıty (62.40±8.86) of depressed patients in the experimental group after CBT-based psychoeducation increased compared to the level of socıal functıonalıty (51.74±8.18) of depressed patients in the control group. CBT-based psychoeducation practice created a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) on the levels of suıcıde possibility and socıal functıonalıty in the experimental group of depressed patients. Conclusion: CBT-based psychoeducation applied to depressed patients; It was determined that it was effective in reducing the level of suıcıde possibility and increasing the level of socıal functıonalıty in these patients.
