An examination of the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and coping styles with stres according to depression and age levels

Early maladaptive schemas are cognitive and emotional patterns formed as a result of negative experiences in individuals' childhood, lasting throughout life. Coping styles are defined as strategies developed by individuals to deal with challenging situations. The purpose of the research is to examine the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and coping styles according to depression and age levels. The study was conducted with 414 participants, including 277 women and 137 men, aged between 18 and 75. Participants were administered a questionnaire consisting of a demographic information form, the Young Schema Questionnaire Short Form-3, the Coping Styles Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory. In the results section, significant differences were observed in the mean scores of early maladaptive schemas, coping styles, and depression scores of participants according to gender, age level, marital status, income level, and employment status. Correlation analysis revealed significant correlation coefficients between early maladaptive schemas, coping styles, and depression scores. The obtained data were analyzed according to age groups and depression levels, and multiple linear regression models were used to examine the relationships between the variables. The predicted models indicated that age and depression levels showed significant relationships with early maladaptive schemas and coping styles.
