Sociological investigation pf depresssion: Elazığ sample

ABSTRACT. Ph. D. Thesis Sociological investigation Of Depression: Elazığ Sample Fırat University Institute of Social Sciences Sociology Department We can assumpt that the depression in generally reealized as only psychic and psychiatric illness up to now is a social problem of wich the psychic and economic cost is high in aspect of both reasons and consequences. This illness of which increasing in our country and research field was made firm has mutual relation with soico-economic structure. This illness has the greatest portion in suiciding fact. The view of this illness which has connection with hopelesness, helplesness and alienation necessiates a sociological analyse in aspect of social structure and social disorganization. In this sense, it has been made firm that same socio-economic variations such as sex, age, educatioanal level, personality, mentality-piety, social class, occupation, income, background of family and structure of family, marriage relationship, geographical origin, residence, migration, social mobility and the level of social relation have connected closely with depression. This study has been practiced on the depressive patients having been cured in Elazığ Mental Hospital and Psychiatry service of S.S.K. Hospital. 58 of the 100 patients who we have talked with by survey and interviewing were male and 42 of them were female. Most of people who we interviewed consist of married in middle age. We can say the most of this patients consisting of lower educated people coming form low socio-economic status have originated from low stratum families in aspect of social exraction and are generally living in cities. In our study, we can convey that patients generally become ill due to two general problems which are the family trouble and economical problems. We can utter that most of the patients are experiencing this two problems and troubles results of these problems as generally mixed each other. That is, they don't come face to face with only one of these problems. In addition, we can convey that these problems experienced by patients generally have continuity since their childhood. We can say express that these patients who experienced the troubles, conflicts and pressures in family have been still experiencing the same problems todayVI and different problems have been added to present problems. The problems in family generally become together with economical problems and involve a lot of problems such as lack of communication, discord, abandoning, deceiving and divorcing. We can express that the patients who had economic difficulties in their background at the same time, face to face with the troubles of belonging to low class, today. The economic problems that patients have experienced were joblessness, to be get in to debt, money trouble, to be swindled, insolvency, seizure and working problems related with structural affair. Broadly, their experiencies related with a lot of serious socio-economic problems in simultaneously play an important role on their becoming ill by being exhausted. In spite of their heavy problems, them to be lack of social support and be alone have been effective on their depressive disorders.
