Evaluation of the clinical success of four different restorative materials in classII restoration of primary molars with DEEP dentin caries

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical success of 4 different restorative materials containing fluoride, placed in the cavity after partial caries removal in primary molars, during a 12-month follow-up period. Method: In our study, 250 primary molars with deep dentin caries in 80 children aged 5-9 years, after selective removal of the caries lesion, hybrid glass ionomer cement (Equia Forte HT), zinc reinforced high viscosity glass ionomer cement (Chemfil Rock), resin modified restored with glass ionomer cement (Fuji II LC) and alkacid material (Cention N). The clinical success of the materials was evaluated at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months using the Modified USPHS criteria. Results: In our study, 183 restorations were followed for 12 months and pulpal infection occurred in a total of 6 teeth. No pulpal perforation occurred in any tooth. When evaluated in terms of retention, Fuji II LC (92,86%) is the most successful material, followed by Chemfil Rock (81,49%), Equia Forte (78,95%) and Cention N (75%). There was no statistically significant difference between the materials in terms of retention criteria at the end of the 12th month (p>0.05). When the other modified USPHS criteria were evaluated, Fuji II LC was the most successful material according to the marginal discoloration criteria. Cention N according to the marginal adaptation and anatomical form criteria, and Equia Forte HT according to the color match criteria. It was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the materials at the 12th month in terms of marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration and anatomical form criteria (p<0.05). In our study, no secondary caries or postoperative sensitivity was observed in any of the cases. Conclusion: When our study results are evaluated, the low rate of pulpal infection in primary molars with deep dentin caries at the end of the 1-year follow-up period shows that the materials we used in our study can be used successfully together with the selective caries removal method. However, when the materials were evaluated according to the modified USPHS criteria, it was seen that they showed similar results.
