The role of Staphylococcus Aureus in dermatophytosis susceptible dogs

Abstract (EN)

In this study, 100 swabes, which were collected from skin lesions of owned, vaccined and dermatophytosis suspected dogs found in Izmir region were examined for S. aureus in Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Microbiology Laboratory. As a result 51 (51 %) S. aureus were isolated out of 100 samples. S. aureus strains were identified from 6 (12 %) of 18 smalbreed female dogs, 9 (18 %) of 15 smalbreed male dogs, 13 (25%) of 31 bigbreed female dogs and 23 (45 %) of 36 bigbreed dogs. The Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated in this study found to be resistant to Eryhromicin in the ratio of 25.4 %, Amoxycillin-clavulanic acid in the ratio of 54.9 %, Enrofloxacine in the ratio of 3.9 %, Ampicilline in the ratio of 74.5 %, Gentamicin in the ratio of 5.8 %, Ceftizoxime in the ratio of 80 %, Neomicin in the ratio of 13.7 and Kanamycine in the ratio of 13.7 %.
