An examinition of the development of mathematics teachers' teaching knowledge using creative drama method by lesson study

This study aims to observe how the secondary school math teachers will plan and perform the drama method with lesson study model and the progress in their math teaching knowledge. In this study, the teaching knowledge of math is limited with two components: knowledge of content and students (KCS) and knowledge of content and teaching (KCT) In this study, there are two teachers who work in two public schools of the ministry of national education in Bayraklı and Göztepe district- in İzmir province. Participants have been choosen with the criterion sampling from purposive sample methods. The criterion has been determined as math teachers who have similar occupational experiences and who are willing to perform the crative drama method. In this study, qualitative research method has been used in data collection, data analysis and data interpretation. In tne notable part of the studies of "the lesson study" , the importance of an external expert apart from teachers is emphasized. It is important for teachers to get advice from a drama expert in the process of making drama plans, so we consult to a drama expert in plan making stages. The study process has been planned by observing the stages of lesson study and as a part of study loop three lessons, in total nine drama lesson plans (3 first plans, 3 revised plans, 3 last plans) have been made. The data collection tools of this study are; observation forms which were formed to the stages of lesson study model and to the characteristics of drama method expediently, drama plans which were prepared by teachers, video recordings of lesson study stages and notes taken by the researcher. Since it's a qualitative study, acquired data have been analyzed by the usage of qualitative research methods. At the end of the lesson study, it has been determined that the teachers have developed their knowledge of content and student and teaching strategy knowledge.
