Abstract (EN)

On account of the fast progress in power electronic domain, most of the instruments and products are looking forward to smaller-sized, reliable, multi-functional, and long-term for the lifetime of the battery. Therefore, the study of power management became an unavoidable part in power electronic applications. DC-DC converters for battery charging applications with high power requires the ripple for the input current and output voltage to be as less as possible, also it demands an isolated between the input and output. Therefore, in this thesis, an isolated four-phase interleaved boost converter (I4PIBC) is presented for battery charging of military applications that overcome the problem of high input current and output voltage ripples. The converter operates in continuous conduction mode CCM with a changeable source voltage ranged from 9-36 vdc, and the desired output is 28 vdc with an output power of one kilowatt, since the voltage on the DC-link capacitor is designed to be 80 vdc. Furthermore, while designing the proposed converter, the balance between the phase's current should be considered to be equal in all the phases. Hence, different control methods have been proposed and investigated to be applied for the converter. In the first method, the converter is controlled using a single-loop controller as a voltage controller, and the second method a double loop current mode controller is used to control the input current. The third method uses the same concept in the second method, where a double loop is provided to control the converter; however, the inner loop consists of four identical separate proportional and integral controllers meant to control each current phase individually. In the last method, predictive mode controller is presented for controlling such a converter. The simulation results are illustrated separately one by one for each control method, and then the response of the converter operating with different control methods is compared.
