ABSTRACTDEVELOPMENT OF A FUZZY DECISION MAKING MODELFOR PERSONNEL SELECTIONKANKILIÇ, HüseyinM.Sc. in Industrial EngineeringSupervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türkay DERELJuly 2005, 75 pagesIn this thesis, a fuzzy decision making model has been developed and implemented forpersonnel selection, which is a matching process of individuals? properties with job/positionand organizational requirements. Matching process is carried out by evaluating applicantsaccording to the criteria important to perform job successfully, of course these evaluationscontains vague and imprecise information. It is very difficult to manipulate these kinds ofinformation with classical statistical methods; however ?Fuzzy logic? is more successful tomodel ?personnel selection? like other real-life problems include uncertainties. ?Fuzzy rating?method is mainly used in order to solve the problem in this thesis together with PairwiseComparison technique based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Relative importanceof job related criteria are determined by pairwise comparison, candidates are evaluated withsix-level linguistic variables with respect to each criterion, final ratings of each candidate arecomputed by fuzzy rating method. The developed model is implemented through a computer program which is prepared by usingMicrosoft Visual Studio .NET along with Microsoft Access as database. The program hasbeen tested with real life ?personnel selection? problems as well, with positive results. Theresults are also discussed.Key Words: Personnel Selection, Fuzzy Logic, Analytic Hierarchy Process
