Abstract (EN)
With the construction of Turkey as a modern nation-state, public visibility of religion has been limited and, having been compressed to a personal and conscientious area, religion has been defined in a way that the individual can perform it only in his/her own world. In the process of the confinement of religion to such a limited area, cinema has been an ideological apparatus for the projection of the religious in a pejorative way. Within the cinema, religion has lost its meaningful position in the social memory and has begun to move away from the semantic universe of the Turkish society in the interpretation of the world. In this process of detachment, cinema has played a role as an ideological apparatus of the state in a private sphere that does not belong to the state. Key Words: Modernization, Religion, Cinema, Ideology and Ideological Apparatus
