Abstract (EN)

Digital diplomacy can be explained as the manifestation of diplomatic activities on social media and/or the digitalization of these activities. This concept particularly emphasizes the elements of "communication" and "directing and managing public opinion". Digital diplomacy may differ depending on states' own interpretations of diplomacy. For example, the United States refers to digital diplomacy as statecraft, while the United Kingdom refers to it as "the resolution of foreign policy problems through the use of the internet." This thesis analyzes the impact of digitalization on diplomacy and the role of social media in this context. Focusing on the concept of digital diplomacy, it was examined how social media platforms are used in international relations and interstate communication. The thesis presents digital diplomacy, defined as an alternative communication tool to traditional diplomacy, with examples of interactions between state leaders and diplomats, especially via Twitter. The differences, advantages and disadvantages between digital and traditional diplomacy were discussed, and the effects of this new approach on international relations were evaluated. In this context, the effects of digital diplomacy practice on international politics and the role of social media in this process have been comprehensively analyzed.
