Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to investigate digital literacy experiences of the elderly people through workshop-based digital storytelling (DST). The digital storytelling workshop started with eight elderly volunteers who live in a nursing home. In this study, which is based on case study, one of the qualitative research techniques, the data was collected by the researcher through observation and semi-structured interviews during the workshop process. Individual, descriptive and content analysis were used to analyze the collected data. The results of the data analysis pointed out that digital literacy experiences of elderly people were differentiated in the DST workshop process. Especially the participants who experienced computers for the first time claimed that they got proud of themselves and happy with these activities during this process. It was determined that the opinions of the elderly who have negative views towards technology in the process of DST have changed positively. In addition to digital literacy experiences of the elderly people, their lives about DST were also investigated. One of the participants said that they added five years to their life with the pleasure they received during the DST process. In this study, the relationship of elder people with technology, how their digital literacy experiences in DST process are shaped, and the reflections of the elderly in DST process have been examined and it was concluded that they are willing to learn the technology when they are provided with suitable environment and given opportunities.
