Abstract (EN)

The digital game industry is growing rapidly as a competitor to the rapidly developing television and film industry after the Industrial Revolution that started in Europe. The growth in sale rates of digital game increases the interest in game design, and today, undergraduate, and graduate programs in digital game design are opened in various universities around the world. Spatial design in digital games is one of the most important visual elements in managing and directing visual perception. In digital games, the place is called the environment where the story of the game takes place, and the characters interact with each other. It is possible to create a virtual atmosphere by using the forms and shapes envisioned in the mind thanks to the innovations brought by technology. This atmosphere allows to display the idea and thought which is wanted to be conveyed. It is known that places have the effect of directing people, as in real life. People create a living environment by constructing spaces in a certain hierarchy and order. They socialize in this living environment and continue their daily lives. Spatial design works in a similar way in digital games. It is known that elements such as color, form, texture, and light, which are among the basic design principles, have psychological effects on the perception of space. The correct and effective use of these instruments play a major role in strengthening the perception of the space. However, it is seen that some problems occur in the formation of the perception of space when the basic design principles mentioned in some digital games are compromised or a game setup is created by not paying enough attention. This may cause the gamer to have difficulty in perceiving the space and the perception of space may not be formed clearly. The speed of developments in the digital game industry reveals the need for studies in the field. In this thesis, it is aimed to analyze visual fiction problems in the formation of space perception in digital games and to make a space design application on the concept of fantastic.
