Possible changes in the relationship of Turkish society with space in the transition to digital society: A social tendency survey

Throughout history, societies have produced spaces that meet their needs and reflect their lifestyle and culture. The produced space later appeared in front of people as an element that supports or hinders social development. The advanced level reached by globalization and the dazzling developments in science and technology have brought the relationship between society and space back to the centre of the scientific agenda. The society-space relationship of the digital future has not yet emerged clearly, but the first signs of the form of this relationship have begun to be seen. The research aims to explore how the Turkish society's relationship with space can best be shaped during the transition to digital society. The data was collected with the methods of "document review", "in-depth interviews with experts", "psychometric test" and analysed with "psychometric analysis" and "content analysis" methods. Within the scope of the study, a psychometric test was prepared and applied to discover the tendencies of Turkish society. In the psychometric analysis, the level of digitalization of Turkish society and the open and closed attitudes of Turkish people in their relationship with space in the near future were evaluated. The findings show that Turkey has a digitalized society structure at the beginning level. Turkish society has not yet fully embraced and internalized digital technology. Turkish society does not fully trust technology in its decision-making processes and thinks that the human mind and will should continue to function as it is now. However, it prefers the use of smart systems for problem solving and facilitating life. The society-space relationship of the near future will be shaped over time depending on established cultures, legal and institutional regulations and technological advances.
