Abstract (EN)

This study explores how ecolinguistics and global education can be integrated into English language teaching (ELT) by examining selected literary texts for their ecological themes and their potential influence on learners. The main goal of this research is to narrow the limitations in current reading materials addressing global ecological issues content as well as encouraging ecological awareness. Utilizing Stibbe's (2015) ecolinguistics framework, the study critically examines three storybooks—The Sun Mother, The Magic School Bus and the Climate Challenge, and My Cousin Ah Meng. These texts are evaluated for their linguistic characteristics, framing, ideologies, and ecological discourses, beside their effectiveness in promoting ecological awareness, environmental responsibility, and sustainable attitudes among learners. The findings highlight the potential of ecolinguistics in language teaching by providing contextually rich materials that not only address ecological concerns but also foster individual awareness. This research contributes to the field of study that integrates language education with global education by providing practical insights and suggestions for language teachers. It advocates for the integration of ecologically-themed literary texts in English classrooms, creating a learning atmosphere that prepares students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to address urgent ecological challenges.
