Performing of linguistic concepts and methods in translation theories

Translation is an activity that has been done for many years, but translation studies gained autonomy as an academic discipline in the 1970's. Linguistics has a large share in the journey of translation in comparative literature, foreign language teaching and linguistics. The translation practices carried out under the branch of applied linguistics are inadequate in explaining the translation and therefore contributes to the translation in its own reality. Consequently, translation cannot be considered as a sub-discipline of any discipline, but this feature does not mean that it is closed to interdisciplinary studies. Based on this view, in this study it is aimed to question the performing of linguistics concepts and methods in translation theory. For this purpose, Translation-Oriented Text Classification, Scopos Theory, Polysytem Theory and Interpretive Theory of Meaning constitute the corpus of the study. The corpus that is dealt with the descriptive analysis is examined by methods and concepts of Structuralism Theory and Textlinguistics. In this descriptive study, it was found that some linguistic concepts and methods were included in the theories of translation. The results obtained were discussed in the scope of academic translation education and shown on translation practices, as it is thought to guide translation students in translation and enrich the study. As a result of translation practices, suggestions were given on how linguistics can be improved in academic translation education.
