Socio-economic conditions that revealed beggaring from the perspectives of beggars; Ankara example

Begging is primarily done to obtain financial gain, so it would be incorrect to consider this concept independently of the economic structure. However, it is necessary to conduct qualitative research to understand the extent to which individuals who beg are affected by economic processes and social changes, as well as the effects of personal preferences and perceptions on begging. In this perspective, while literature on begging is researched, efforts have also been made to understand begging from the perspective of beggars. The main objectives of this research are to conceptually define begging, evaluate it in the context of cause and effect, and propose social policy recommendations for solving the problem of begging. This thesis aims to investigate the perceptions of beggars regarding the socio-economic conditions in the country and society, focus on the challenges they face and their perspectives on these conditions, and examine the complex dynamics between social reality and the perception of beggars. The research aims to shed light on the experiences of beggars and their struggles with adverse economic conditions using a qualitative research method that includes face-to-face interviews with 10 participants. The findings emphasize the deep impact of financial difficulties and reveal a widespread sense of hopelessness among beggars facing limited opportunities. In order to frame the discussion in a broader social context, the thesis highlights the impact of economic inequalities on the perceptions and experiences of beggars through their expressions. In addition, in-depth analysis of the qualitative data obtained from the interviews aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interaction between socio-economic factors and the perception of beggars. The qualitative data illuminates the multifaceted nature of the experiences of beggars by drawing a detailed picture of the challenges they face. In the conclusion section, this research aims to develop policy recommendations for addressing the problems faced by beggars in the face of socio-economic difficulties, enabling begging to be replaced by participation in employment, and ensuring access to education and other social support systems under equal conditions. In this context, the challenges faced by beggars, the social and economic reasons that drive them to beg, and the inadequate social policies in solving the problem are emphasized. The findings obtained from the perceptions, thoughts, and life stories of beggars are guiding for social policy makers within the framework of social policies put forward by the concept of a social state for solving the problem of begging; however, it has been observed that there is a lack of quantitative and qualitative studies conducted in the field during the research.
