A qualitative study on the role modeling of religious officials in society

In this study, the role modelling undertaken by religious officials in the society and the effects of religious guidance on the spiritual lives of individuals were investigated. In the religious life of the individual, especially religious officials and religious leaders set an example. It is thought that this situation is manifested positively or negatively in the individual's feelings, thoughts and belief structure about religion. Therefore, the aim of our study is to investigate the exemplary role of religious officials on the society and to evaluate the role model identity in the context of the spiritual effect it arouses in individuals. In our study, which we carried out with qualitative research method, the participants consisted of a total of 30 people, male and female, residing in Çankırı. The data obtained as a result of the interviews were analysed by thematic analysis and content analysis method. Firstly, the role theory, which forms the basis of our research, was explained and in this context, the concepts of social learning and role model were emphasised. The role model in Islam, the importance of the mission of the religious worker and the characteristics that should be found in the ideal religious worker are discussed. The effect of spiritual guidance by religious officials on individuals has been analysed. Literature on the subject was reviewed and foreign sources were included in the study. Finally, findings on the role model identity of religious officials in the society and their effects on the religious lives of individuals were obtained. As a result of our study, although the professional equipment and role modelling of religious officials are not at a sufficient level, it has been observed that they contribute positively to the spirituality of individuals, it has been determined that their dignity and reputation in the eyes of the society still continues and there is trust in religious officials.
