Teaching different religions and beliefs in the curriculum of religious culture and moral knowledge course

Our study aimed at teaching different religions and beliefs in the curriculum of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course. Some developments seen in social life have affected particularly educational activities. Particularly; due to the effects of such facts as globalization and multiculturism; people of different ethnic, religious, cultural origins communicate with each other and sometimes they get education at the same school and classrooms and even same desks. These results are seen in our country, too. Therefore, it is a crucial problem in terms of education of religions how an education should be given to the people of different religious and cultural backgrounds in Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course. Educational activities play a key role in the solution of prejudices and conflicts in religious and cultural spheres. In this sense; our study will first determine the place allocated to teaching different beliefs in the curriculum of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course and then we will try to examine accuracy and competence of the information and knowledge provided.Firstly, method we used and limitations were explained in our study. Later, the terms that constituted the base of our study such as education, education of religions, multiculturism, multicultural education, multicultural education of religions were explained and some other approaches of education of religions were investigated. Next, the curriculums of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course used in our country between 2000 and 2012 were examined through approaches and methods of education of religions. Finally, course books of Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Course used between 2000 and 2012 were examined one by one and we tried to determine whether different religions and beliefs were included or not, if yes, we tried to determine the accuracy of the information and knowledge and their contribution to the solution of the prejudices and conflicts in the society.
