The effect of the use of biography as a material in religious culture and moral courses on students' academic achievement

One of the problems experienced in religious culture and ethics lessons is that abstract subjects such as other courses take place and human beings have problems in perception. It can be realized by using different materials in the lessons of the teachers in order to involve the students in the educational life by embodying the information in question. Therefore, this study examines the usage of the biography as a material and effects of biography on students' academic achievement in the lesson of religious culture and ethics. In the introduction part of the thesis, the problem statement, the purpose of these's, the importance of the thesis, hypothesis, the application of the biography as a material, the method part has taken place. Quasi experimental design is used in the research method. While biography was used as a material in a selected unit of religious culture and ethics lesson for the students in the experimental group for four weeks, training based on traditional education was conducted to the students in the control group. In the first part; conceptual framework and related studies have been carried out. In the second part; the results of the study showed that, although there was an increase in the lesson success of both groups, the final-test success scores of the students in the experimental group were significantly higher than the students in the control group. These findings indicate that the usage of biography as a material can be an effective material for the teaching of religious culture and ethics, which may help students to improve their academic achievement. As a result, religious culture and ethics teachers who want to increase students' academic achievements in religious culture and ethics lessons can recommend using biography material.
