A study on the relation between religious persons' conceptions of prophecy and religious attitudes (Bursa case)

Religion is a multifaceted and comprehensive phenomenon, having an impact on believers emotions, thoughts and actions. Religion, adopted and internalized by its believers determines the attitudes of an individual towards all objects, phenomena, events and persons, that is, psychological objects. Especially, the concepts such as God, heaven, hell, the hereafter, and prophets, not having opportunity to obtain concrete information, are determinative like many other factors in attitudes developed against religious psychological objects. In this sense, prophets gain importance in terms of providing communication with "God", one of the central concepts of religions. And the conceptions of prophets are also determinant in shaping religious attitudes. The data, obtained from the sample aged 18 and over has been analized in this study in order to understand the relation between the conception of prophecy and the religious attitudes. Findings show that the conception of prophecy have significant relations with religious attitudes in many respects.
