Özet (EN)
This thesis examines the contribution of spatial usage to narrative in demonstrating the new world order and the power of authority established by dystopian works, with a focus on The Handmaid's Tale series. It analyzes the design decisions in the show's settings from an architectural perspective, considering factors such as authority, gender inequality, class distinctions, and religious and cultural practices. In the analysis of power spaces, research from the literature on power spaces has been utilized. These analyses enhance the understanding of how power spaces can be interpreted in conjunction with the narrative. In this context, The Handmaid's Tale is thoroughly examined. The real-world designs of the spaces depicted in the series are analyzed, alongside references to the descriptions in the novel. The director's preferences in terms of spatial choices are also explored. The architectural styles used as a spatial design language in the series are analyzed in relation to the narrative. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to the literature by identifying the influence of architecture on dystopian cinema's spatial designs and its impact on cinematic storytelling.
