Abstract (EN)

This study deals with water and images of water in frequently talked over works of eminent authors that lived in different centuries. In order to explore the image of water and its various manifestations the following authors have been selected, namely, Yunus Emre, from 13th century, Fuzuli, from 16th century, Nabi, from 17th century, and Sheik Galib, who prevailed with his mastery in a time when the star of Divan Literature was fading and is well-known for different poetic images in the 18th century. Thus, religious mysticism, classical, wisdom and sebk-ı hindi are some examples. The introduction discusses how water is dealt with in mythologies, religions, architecture and arts also Turkish literature and the literature on languages such as Arabic and Persian which influenced it. Expressions of water and all elements concerning water such as rain, cloud, dew drops, sea and the like have been categorized according to their characteristics. The study aims to explore how water and its various manifestations are connected with elements of religion and Sufism in the first part, with such types, under the human title, as lover, beloved, opponent, padishah, and slave in the second part, and with elements concerning nature and life in the third part. In the fourth chapter, the relation of water with other elements is mentioned. Under this head, abstract concepts of water and some concepts of writing are related to the relation with sound/music. Also water structures were included. The fifth part, water is the last part covers water idioms and proverbs and how the poets employed traditional practices performed with water.
