Evaluation of the effect of energy drinks on soft tissue wound healing in diabetic rats

Abstract (EN)

Wound healing covers the mechanism period of tissue, starting from the formation of injury to become healthy again to get healthy again and this process is affected by systemic, local and enviromental factors. Based on the effects of diabetes and nutrition on wound healing and this study began with 84 samples, due to the deaths related with complications of diabetes, study was completed with 63 samples. 2 wound surfaces (deepithelization and exicision of the epithelium+connective tissue) each of be 3 mm diameters was formed on the type II diabetes rat's palate created with high-calorie diet and STZ injection. Energy drink in the test group and distilled water in control group via oral gavage was administered from one day after the surgery until being sacrificed. Clinical inflammation parameters such as edema and erythema and also wound surface diameter was assessed on 3rd, 7th, 14th and 21st days. Additionally, reepithelialization, granulation tissue formation and collagen organization were assessed histologically. The immunohistochemical expression of VEGF, FGF-2 and appoptotic cells with tunnel method was examined. Blood samples taken while sacrificing and MDA, CAT and FGF-10 were examined. In terms of improvoment of erythema and deepitelization results revealed that test groups statistically significant better than control group on the 3rd day. According to histological evaluation, re-epithelization on the 7th day, granulation tissue and collogen formation on the 3rd day in the test group was statistically significantly better. The results of immunohistochemical evaluation showed the level of VEGF in the test group was statistically significant better on the 14th and 21st days and FGF-2 level in the test group was statistically significant better at all the evaluation periods. Within the limitations of this study energy drinks, clinical, biochemical and histological parameters in the evaluation of diabetic rats has shown to be helpful in early secondary wound healing.
