Abstract (EN)

This study was performed to evaluate the association between the attitudes regarding diabetes and self-care capabilities of diabetic individuals.According to power analysis, with 0.90 power and 0.05 type-I error 89 patients were sufficient fort he study, 130 patients were recruited fort he study Data; were gat here damong patient sattending Karaman Devlet Hastanesi between Haziran–Kasım 2015 who had Patient Data Sheet, Self-care capability scaleand Diabetes attitudes scaleby means off ace-to-face interview.Inanalysis of the data, number, percent, mean and Standard deviation;kruskal Wallis and mannwhitney U test to compare categoric variables, spearman2srho correlation test to determine the association among the variables were performed. It has been determined that 93.1% of patients had type II diabetes, 59.2% were over 56 years old, 57.7% were female, 83.1% were married, 73.8% were graduated from elementaryschool, 63.8% had diabetes for 0-9 years, 53.1%received oral antidiabetic medications + insülin, 57.7% had diabetic primary relatives, 56.2% complied with treatment moderately. Mean score of Self-care capability of the diabetic patients was 94.69 ± 21.92. Self-care capability was significantly different between persons who had and sid not have primary relatives with diabetes (U=1602,500; p<0,05). Self care capability scores were higher in persons who had diabetic patients among their primary relatives. Means cores of self care capability showed significant differences according to diabetes treatment(KW=9,892; p<0,05). Self-care capability scores were higher in patients who think that they comply with thetretment well. Self-care capability scores were determined to be significant according to hospitalization status during the last 1 year due to diabetes (U=798,500; p<0,05). Patients who 1 year had lower self-care capability scores. While Self-care capability means cores showedsignificant differences according tosmoking variable, (KW=16,140; p<0,05), patient who quit smoking had higher self-care capabilityscores. Participants who don't exercise had lower self-care capability scores. Mean self-care capability scores demonstrate significant difference according to exercise status(KW=10,220; p<0.05).Diabetes attitudes scale means core was 2,78±0,64 for diabetic subjects. Means corewas highest in severity of diabetes subgroup (3,42), whereas it was lowest in sub group of special education requirement (1,64). Although total mean scores of diabetes attitudes of type-1 diabetic patients (3,36±0,66) and total means cores of diabetes attitudes of patients, total mean scores of diabetesattitudes of typeII diabetes patients (2,74±0,63)was on negative side. Total mean scores of diabetes attitudes were on negative side in patients who complied treatments good (2,97±0,59), average (2,70±0,59) and bad (2,22±1,00), and the difference among them was significant (p<0,05). There was a negative weak association between self-care capability and diabetes attidutes scale (0,20Keyword: Diabetes mellitus = Diabetes mellitus ; Hastalar = Patients ; Ölçekler = Scales ; Özbakım = Self-care
