Abstract (EN)

A general questionnaire was administered on patients consisting of three sections; dietary habits and biochemical parameters, blood pressure. At the same time the three-day 24-hour dietary recall records of patients, anthropometric measurements [height, weight, mid-upper arm circumference] blood pressure, blood samples were collected and recorded in the questionnaire. The average age of patients in this study was 58.38 ± 16.12 and duration of dialysis was determined as 7.6 ± 5.68 years. According to the Patients National Kidney Foundation (NKF) ,considering the amount of energy and protein they receive, the patients have been found to be under the proposal. While it was observed the daily energy intake of all of the men and women are under 35 kcal/kg/day, 88.2 % of the women and 72.7 % of male patients were observed to get protein less than 1 g/kg/day. Serum albumin levels in male patients has been found to be 4.0 ± 0.72 in avarage, while it is 3.7 ± 0.27 for women. LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol of female and male patients was found to be in the reference range level. While the average BMI for female patients was 25.6 ± 3.54 kg/m2, in male patients it was determined to be 23.8 ± 2.83 kg/m2 in avarage. It was observed that there is a significant relationship between the duration of dialysis and BMI values (p< 0.05). It was observed that 4.3 % of the patients who have been on dialysis for 5 years and less time are underweight, 65.2% were normal, 13% were overweight and 17.4% were obese while 55.6% of those who have been on dialysis for more than 5 years were normal and 4.4% were mild obese. Consequently, most of the patients undergoing hemodialysis are observed to feed insufficiently, below the recommended amounts and can not adapt to the recommended diet.
