Determinations on musical culture of Diyarbakır and Celal Güzelses' work of art on TRT reportory

Diyarbakır, which is significant place with its historical background, cultural richness and geographical location, is important for the repertoire of Turkish folk-songs since it develops unique features in the means of manner (tavır), dialect (şive) and tune of the larynx (hançere). This thesis analyzes life of Celal Güzelses and his musical works, which were recorded by TRT, in terms of their mode (makam) and tempo (usul). At the first phase of research, literature on Celal Güzelses and folk-songs of Diyarbakır were reviewed, field-research was conducted and accessed information was analyzed. At the second phase of research, Diyarbakır folk-songs that are belong to Celal Güzelses in TRT archives were identified and analyzed in terms of their mode series (makam dizileri) and tempo structures (usul yapıları). As a conclusion of research, it can be said that Celal Güzelses was one of the influential musicians and artists, and the culture of "Eyvan (Velime)" takes an important place at the local music culture. Although the mode series of "uşşak" (uşşak makam dizisi) has been one of the predominant mode series at the musical works of Güzelses, it seems that he produced several musical works with different mode series and generally used 10/8 and 4/4 tempo structures.
