Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the role of Feline calicivirus in upper respiratory system problems of cats in Diyarbakir regionand the status of infection in the region, to the treatment of infected cats and to contribute to the prophylaxis of the disease. Material and Methods:The materials of the study consisted of 20 cats with a different race, age, and sex who were brought to the Dicle University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Prof. Dr. Servet SEKİN Policlinic with the complaint of upper respiratory system problem which have not been vaccinated against Feline calicivirus infection, and 10 healthy cats without any health problems brought to for routine examination. After routine physical examination of the animals oral, conjunctival swapand blood samples were taken.Hematological and biochemical analyzes of blood samples were performed, and swab samples were analyzed for PCR analysis. Results: In the clinical examination of the cats, oral lesions, hypersalivation, tears and nasal discharge, cough and difficulty in breathing were detected.Statistically, the respiratory frequency was found to be significantly lower in the patient group (p<0,05).Feline calicivirus was detected only in one conjunctival sample in PCR analysis of oral and conjunctival swap samples taken from the cats. Hematologically, Mon (%) was high (p<0,05), and MCH, MCHC and, PLT values were found to be lower in the sick groups (p˂0.005).Biochemically, creatinine level was statistically significantly lower in the patient group (p˂0,05). Conclusion:It was concluded that feline calicivirus infection is present in cats in Diyarbakır region however, only 5% of which have clinical symptoms revealed positivity ofin cats according to PCR analysis.
