Influences of sulfur appliations on cotton yield quality in Diyarbakır

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of sulfur source and sulfurapplication rates on cotton growth, yield and fiber quality under Diyarbakırconditions. Sulfur sources as elementar (at rates of 0, 150 and 300 kg/ha) andgypsum (at trates of 0, 50 and 100 kg/ha) were applied and incorporated to the soil atplanting time. Vegetative and reproductive growth characteristics were evaluated at50, 70 and 96 DAP (days after planting). Sulfur fertilizer applications did not affectgrowth characteristics. The interaction term was found to be not significant for alltraits studied.Sulfur source applications significantly affected seed cottton and lint yield.Cotton yields obtained with gypsum applications were significantly higher than othersulfur sources did. Sulfur source applications were found to be significant for fiberlength and fiber elongation. Gypsum applications produced more higher length andelongation values. It could be concluded that gypsum applications can berecommended as sulfur fertilizer since it produced more higher yields and improvedcertain fiber propertiesKey Words : Cotton, Elementar sulfur, Gypsum, Yield and Fiber Quality
