Thesis)Hakan AYDOGANGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOctober 2006ABSTRACTIn 2003, almost 44% of the new passenger cars that were launched onthe road in Europe were diesel driven, that is, the number of vehicleswith diesel engines increased by 3% in comparison with the previousyear. Half of the vehicles that are to be launched in 2006 are expected tohave diesel engines. Now the diesel engine has proven itself in smallerscale economical vehicles, as well as in large luxury class cars.There are several different fuel systems that are used in diesel engines.In this study, four engines having 1,9 and 2,0 liter displacements havebeen used for measuring exhaust emissions with exhaust emissionmeasurement tool on chassis dynamometer, and compared. One of theengines having 1,9 liter displacement uses distributor type fuel pump,the other one uses pump injector in their fuel systems. The engineshaving 2,0 liter engine displacement use pump injector and piezo pumpinjector in their fuel systems respectively.On the vehicles with these engines, chassis dynamometer has beenused to measure the emission parameters in different revs, and thesehave been compared to each other.
